This service provides advice on improvements and repairs which would be essential to bring the house up to basic standards.

Our staff will visit you in your home, advise if the work would qualify for a grant, and complete all the necessary paperwork on your behalf to apply for any grant assistance that may be available.

All grants are means tested. If you are on Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, or the Guarantee element of Pension Credit you may receive a 100% grant, up to £20,000, depending on funds being available from SBC at the time the grant is submitted for approval. A reducing scale of grant is then awarded based on your financial situation, to obtain more advice contact Care and Repair.

What type of work may be eligible for a grant?

•	Rising / penetrating damp
•	Replacement of lead piping
•	Electrical rewiring
•	Providing bath /shower facilities
•	Providing a satisfactory kitchen
•	Window replacement
•	Provide an internal W.C.

Grant approval must be issued by SBC in writing prior to commencement of any works. Grant cannot be paid retrospectively.
